Islip Sets Special Budget Hearing

Town officials to gather Thursday to discuss closing budget shortfall.

The Islip Town Board will hold a special meeting Thursday to discuss the town’s budget shortfall, which officials have said is upwards of $26 million.

Set for 2 p.m. in the public meeting room at Town Hall, department heads from across the township will meet to discuss additional cuts in order to reduce the budget gap prior to Sept. 30, when a completed 2013 spending plan is due.

In August, Town Supervisor Tom Croci reached out to Islip residents asking for input and suggestions on how to close the budget gap.

FiOS 1 reported on Tuesday that Croci said town officials would look at “everything,” including possibly shutting a number of town-run parks, pools and beaches as well as possible reductions in services.

If Town residents do not show for this hearing & protest their disapproval for raising taxes then none of you have a right to complain! Challenge the corruption & make Croci & his board lay off the 30%+ of their workforce they threatened. It will not change essential services despite their claims.
