County Shuts Lake Ronkonkoma to Bathers

Health department finds high levels of blue-green algae.

The Suffolk County Department of Health on Wednesday closed beaches on Lake Ronkonkoma after finding high levels of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae.

Cyanobacteria can be dangerous to humans if they produce toxins in large concentrations, something that could occur in algal blooms.

The county keeps a full list of closed beaches on its website.
