County Legislator Muratore Has Plenty of Questions About Potential Sale of Holtsville IRS Building

He's in favor of a pilot program to reimburse school system of lost tax money.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Muratore has many questions regarding the proposed purchase of the IRS building in Holtsville by the County.

"Which county facilities are going to be relocated?" he wrote in an email. "How much money are we going to really save if we need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovation and moving costs?

"Most important, how is the County of Suffolk going to make up the $220,000 in funding that is provided by the IRS to the Sachem School District?"

That last question seems to be the main one hovering around the Sachem community. When the County buys the building at 5,000 Croporate Ct. for $25 million, the school system will lose nearly a quarter of a million in revenue through tax dollars.

"If this deal is ever going to see the light of day, some type of arrangement or pilot payment to the Sachem School District must be part of the deal," Muratore said.

Though the property is not in his Fourth Legislative District, much of the Sachem community is. He said he is more than happy to field comments, questions or concerns about the deal.
