Congressman Bishop To Receive Award At Sachem East

Congressman will be honored during Sachem East's participation in National Teen Driver Safety Week.

In just a couple hours Congressman Tim Bishop will be on the grounds of Sachem East High School to receive the 2012 Graduated Driver Licensing Champion Award during the school's summit on safe driving.

Sponsored by State Farm, the award is presented to elected officials that have supported and furthered graduated licensing legislation with an emphasis on safe driving for teens.

The award will be presented to Congressman Bishop during Sachem East's fair in recognition of National Teen Driver Safety Week. The fair begins at 10 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m., with participants including the Suffolk County Police Department, the Sheriff's Department, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and the Education & Assistance Corporation, which advocates for safer teen driving.

According to a release, Congressman Bishop is one of the first US lawmakers to receive the award. A formal ceremony will be held for Congressman Bishop at 11 a.m. at the high school.
