Brookhaven Officials 'Discouraging' Trick-or-Treating

Acting Town Supervisor Kathleen Walsh ask parents to keep kids at home Halloween night.

Acting Brookhaven Town Supervisor Kathleen Walsh is asking residents to spend Halloween indoors and is discouraging outdoor trick-or-treating in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Many areas of the Town are still without power with downed trees and power lines remaining in the street, which can pose serious hazards for youngsters.

"The Town of Brookhaven has sustained tremendous damage from Hurricane Sandy, making the classic tradition of trick-or-treating very dangerous for all of our residents this year," said Walsh. “With downed power lines, fallen trees, and blackout conditions in many of our neighborhoods, I strongly encourage our residents to celebrate this year's holiday indoors with friends and family."
