Brookhaven and Tritec Enter Memorandum of Agreement

Allows town and company to work towards the Ronkonkoma HUB Project.

This week, the Brookhaven Town Board approved a resolution to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Tritec Real Estate Company for the Ronkonkoma Hub Transit-Oriented Development.

According to the town, this MOA formalizes the Town’s relationship with Tritec and enables the Town and Tritec to work towards the redevelopment of the blighted area north of the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

“The Ronkonkoma Hub is the best opportunity on the east coast for a transit-oriented development with its close proximity to both the busiest train station on the LIRR and MacArthur Airport," said Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko, in a statement. I look forward to working with Tritec Real Estate Company and furthering the vision of the Town and community for a live-work-play destination that will attract young people and create a vibrant center for Long Island."

The Ronkonkoma Hub Design Committee, which consisted of town planning and economic development staff and members of the Ronkonkoma community, unanimously recommended Tritec as the Master Developer for the project at the end of 2011. The Design Committee was impressed with Tritec’s successful track record of development, financial strength, and compelling and creative vision for the site.

“The civic will continue to work closely with the town and Tritec to execute the community’s vision for the area,” said Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization President George Schramm, in a statement. “Based on Tritec’s knowledge of transit-oriented development and their preliminary visualizations of what the Ronkonkoma Hub could become, we look forward to getting started.”

Tritec presented at the Town Board’s work session on February 2, 2012, highlighting their experience and vision to create a new brand for Long Island at the Ronkonkoma Hub, which will serve as the gateway to Eastern Long Island.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to be involved with such a transformative project and look forward to working with the Town of Brookhaven and the community to make it a reality,” said Robert J. Coughlin, Principal and Co-Founder of Tritec Real Estate Company, in a statement.
