Bishop Supports Ronkonkoma to Greenport on LIRR

Congressman says Suffolk residents deserve same services as New Yorkers.

Congressman Tim Bishop (NY-1), Long Island's only member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, is supporting the LIRR's continued service from Ronkonkoma to Greenport.

"For too long, Suffolk County residents have subsidized western routes while facing reduced service at home," Bishop said in a statement Friday night. " We're willing to pay our share, but Suffolk County residents deserve the same level of service other New Yorkers enjoy."

Bishop said there is a need for reliable public transportation because it strengthens communities and helps "our dependence."
