Assemblyman Al Graf Collecting Retired Flags

Hopes to ensure flags are retired under proper, respectful procedure.

New York Assemblyman Al Graf, R,C–Holbrook, is encouraging constituents to bring their worn and damaged flags to his office so they can be retired according to official guidelines.

Many people are unaware of the protocol for retiring flags, and the assemblyman is seeking to ensure that all of the community’s flags receive the proper, respectful retirement they deserve.

Graf said the American flag is the heart and soul of this country, and must always be handled with reverence and dignity.

“Military guidelines dictate a specific method of retiring worn and damaged flags that affords them the proper respect," he said in a statement. "I am asking all of my constituents to bring their flags to my office if they are unsure of the proper way to retire them, as I would be honored to see that Old Glory receives a proper send off. It is our duty as patriots and proud Americans to preserve the traditions of the American Flag, and together we can protect the sanctity of these treasured items.”
