Crime Boss Whitey Bulger Spent Time in Holtsville

As a fugitive for 16 years, Bulger traveled the states and found himself on Long Island.

Holtsville is known for many things; the IRS, a zoo, Motorola and Neal Heaton for you sports fans, but now it’s also an original stop on Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger’s fugitive tour across America in the mid-‘90s.

During a bail hearing for Catherine Greig, the longtime girlfriend of Bulger, who was apprehended with him in Santa Monica, Calif. last year after more than 16 years on the run, it was said the couple spent time in Holtsville and Selden from early 1995 through late 1996.

The Los Angeles Times and Boston Globe reported that Bulger, now 81, stayed at a Best Western in Holtsville, which is now the current site of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located on the Long Island Expressway South Service Road at Exit 63.
