Victim of Holbrook DWI Crash Dies at Hospital

Kristen Iacono, of East Setauket, succumbs to her injuries a day after crash; Centereach man is charged with driving while intoxicated.

A 26-year-old woman died of her injuries following an alleged DWI in Holbrook last week.

Kristen Iacono, of East Setauket, was driving west on the north service road of the Long Island Expressway early on the morning of May 23 when a vehicle driven by James O'Donnell, of Centereach, slammed into Iacono's 2005 Lincoln, according to police.

Iacono was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where she died a day later.

O'Donnell, 47, was not injured in the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Holbrook Road and the service road. O'Donnell, who had been travelling north on Holbrook Road, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. There's been no word from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office as to whether charges will be upgraded against O'Donnell in light of Iacono's death.

A passenger in Iacono's car, Joseph Kemp, 30, of Holbrook, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.

A wake for Iacono continues Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in East Setauket. The funeral will be held Thursday at St. James RC Church in Setauket. For more info, visit the funeral home's website here

Dwi's & drug addicts destroying normal families All over long island. It's about time we reform this broken liberal justice system.

my prayers go out to kristens family i lost a daughter too. the pain is excruciating. i dont believe anyone posing ssentence on this killer (aka drunk driver) should be allowed to d o such unless they themselves lost a child. too many killers are getting away with their crimes because the people that represent the justice system have no idea the horrific pain the killers cause the loved ones of the departed. the mom of this child (young lady) will never ever be the same again. i can vouch for that five yrs after my daughter was murdered and suffolk county courts gave her rapist /murderer 4-8 yrs in jail. RIP kristen and god be with ur family.
