Alleged Shoplifters To Be Arraigned Friday

Three who led law enforcement authorities on high-speed chase in which Holbrook woman died are set to appear in court.

The three alleged shoplifters who led police on a high speed chase that ended in a fatal crash, killing a Holbrook resident, will be arraigned Friday on a grand jury indictment in Riverhead, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Judge Martin Efman will unseal the indictment.

Cordell Tucker, 24, Rashawn Naquan-Smith, 26, and 18-year-old Essence Smith are charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. The alleged shoplifters ran out of True Religion, a clothing store in the Tanger Outlets, with stacks of jeans totaling $4,500.

According to the district attorney's office, Tucker crashed into another vehicle on Lincoln Avenue in Bohemia during a police chase on June 27.

Gail Sacher, 61, died of her injuries at Southside Hospital, while her husband Alan, who serves on the Sachem Central School District budget advisory committee, was also injured in the crash.
