Selden Woman Arrested in Holtsville for Driving Drunk with Children in Car

Pulled over on Nicolls Road after erratic movements on the road.

A Selden woman was arrested in Holtsville for driving while intoxicated with her young children in the car, police said.

Jennifer Mintz, 38, was pulled over on Nicolls Road in Holtsville at 11:16 p.m. Saturday night when her 2004 Hyundai was moving erratically in the northbound lane of Nicolls, south of the Long Island Expressway, police said.

After stopping the vehicle on Expressway Drive South, the arresting officer confirmed she was operating her motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Also in the vehicle with Mintz were her son and daughter, ages six and four.

Mintz was transported to the Sixth Precinct, where she was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less Than 16 Years Old, a felony under Leandra's Law. She was also charged with one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, all misdemeanors, police said.

The children were turned over to their grandparents and a referral to Child Protective Services was made.

Mintz was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
