A Ronkonkoma electrician was killed yesterday after being struck by a car while working on the Grand Central Parkway in Forest Hills, Queens. Now the driver of the car is being charged with his death.
According to Newsday, Frank Avino, 63, of Ronkonkoma was working on the lighting system along the stretch of Grand Central near the Jewel Avenue exit, when he was struck by an Audi speeding down the westbound lanes, driven by Munshi Abdullah, of Jamaica Hills.
Rescuers responded swiftly, according to the article, but Avino was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile Abdullah, 26, was placed under arrest for DWI, vehicular manslaughter and resisting arrest.
Avino was reported to have worked as an electrician for Welsbach Electric Corp., which is under contract with New York City for installation and upkeep of the street lighting systems in Queens.
