This photo was sent to our Facebook page by Ken Okvist. This was not a real accident, but a training exercise to keep volunteers ready in the event they need to extract a motor vehicle accident victim from a bad wreck.
Okvist describes the scene:
"[The] Ronkonkoma Fire Department won't let a little nor'easter stop their hurst tool extricatiion drill last night. Members of heavy rescue Co.8 sharpened their skills despite the weather."
Local departments routinely get donations from salvage and scrap metal yards such as Gershow in Medford to perform these necessary training drills.
