Rescuers Respond To Early Morning Single-Car Crash in Ronkonkoma

Police and fire rescue responded to this single car crash on the Long Island Expressway early this morning after a woman spun off the road between exits 61 and 63 and crashed into a tree.

The unidentified woman was driving eastbound in a 2008 Nissan with a male passenger when she swerved to avoid another vehicle, police said. The vehicle made contact with the grass shoulder and pulled the car off the road where it careered into a tree.

The woman and her passenger were taken to an area hospital where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries, according to police. The driver was issued a summons, but police could not confirm the nature of the violation.
