Police: Two Men Slashed in Attempted Robberies in Lake Ronkonkoma

Man leaving ATM and pet store employee are attacked within hours of each other, police say.

A man leaving an ATM and a 75-year-old employee of a pet supply store were slashed during attempted robberies just hours apart in Lake Ronkonkoma, police said.

In the first incident, police said a man was exiting the Wells Fargo bank ATM, at 601 Portion Road, when a man approached him with a box cutter and demanded money shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The man slashed the victim and fled with no proceeds, police said. The victim suffered a laceration, but police did not have info Monday on how serious his injuries were or whether he was treated at a hospital.

In the second incident, a male employee of Pet Supplies Plus, which is located right next to the bank on Portion Road, was loading trash into a compactor at the rear of the store around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday when he was approached by an unknown man who demanded money, police said.

The employee said he had none and when he walked away, the would-be robber slashed him across the face and then in the back with an unknown object, police said.

The employee was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment, police said.

Police did not say if they believe the same man is behind both attacks. No arrests have been made.
