Police: Ronkonkoma Man Prepared Cocaine In Front of Sheriff

Sheriff that made pit stop at gas station stumbled upon suspect sitting in car.

A Ronkonkoma man will be arraigned in Central Islip today for drug possession after a Suffolk County Sheriff says he noticed the man preparing a bag of cocaine in plain sight.

Police say Michael Frenna, 52, was sitting in a 2009 Dodge Stratus yesterday at the Gulf gas station in Islandia when Deputy Sheriff Michael Kern was entering the restroom at around 2:30 in the afternoon. According to the Sheriff's Office, Kern walked past the Stratus and noticed Frenna sitting in the car looking down at his lap.

Kern looked in the window and saw a clear plastic bag with a powdery substance sitting in Frenna's lap. Authorities say Frenna admitted to Kern that the substance was cocaine and that he had other drugs in the car.

Frenna was arrested and held overnight for criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
