Police: Ronkokoma Woman Drove Drunk With 2-Year-Old in Car

A Ronkonkoma woman is faced with a felony DWI charge after police say she was driving drunk with a 2-year-old in her car Thursday night.

According to State Police, a trooper saw a Nissan Pathfinder swerving in the southbound lanes on the Sunken Meadow Parkway just north of the Northern State Parkway around 8:14 p.m.

The trooper pulled the vehicle over and while interviewing the driver Kerri Smith, 39, the trooper "detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage," police said.

Smith failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, police said. A 2-year-old boy was in the vehicle. Police did not say what Smith's relation to the boy was.

Smith is charged with aggravated DWI, a felony under Leandra's Law, driving while under the combined influence of drugs and alcohol, endangering the welfare of a child and second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
