Police Rescue Overdose Victim at Smith Haven Mall

Fourth Precinct officers administer nasal narcan to revive unconscious male in mall parking lot.

Three Fourth Precinct officers revived a man who was overdosing on heroin in the parking lot of the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove on Friday.

Authorities say officers Audrey Santanello, John Paul O’Connor and William Schneider answered a call about an unconscious man that was turning purple in a car parked in the mall lot at 6:12 p.m.

A friend of the victim informed police that the victim had a history of heroin use. Officer Santanello administered intranasal Narcan and the man regained consciousness. An ambulance transported the victim, 23, to Stony Brook University Hospital.
