A Medford man faces driving while intoxicated charges after driving the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway early Monday morning, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Steven Brill, 51, was the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic reported by several 911 calls as traveling westbound in the eastbound HOV lane of the highway at Exit 64 at 2:35 a.m.

In order to pull over the vehicle, police say Sgt. Michael Baranek approached the vehicle in the eastbound lane while highway patrol officer Todd Collier drove west on the westbound side until they caught up and pulled over the driver between Exit 59 and Exit 58.

Brill has been charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, police said. Brill is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
