Police: Man with Interlock Device Arrested for DWAI

Justin Mullany, of Blue Point, says he was attempting to blow into device and swerved, police say.

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Blue Point man who was driving while ability impaired by drugs in his vehicle equipped with an interlock device, police said.

Canine Section Officer Robert Fanwick observed a 2011 Nissan Frontier swerving between lanes on County Road 19 in Holbrook at 9:36 p.m. Thursday. Fanwick pulled over the vehicle and the driver, Justin Mullany, 34, appeared confused and was unable to locate paperwork, according to police.

Mullany’s vehicle was equipped with an ignition interlock device due to a prior DWI conviction. Mullany told police that he was swerving because he was attempting to blow into the interlock device.

SAFE-T (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) Section Officer Ari Hirsch arrested Mallany and he was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Mullany was scheduled for arraignment Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
