Police: Man on Drugs Hits Holbrook Woman With Car, Flees Scene

Brandon Bondar was arrested shortly after crash on Parkside Street, victim suffers serious injuries, police say.

A Holbrook woman standing on the side of the road near her home on Parkside Street Sunday morning was hit by a car, whose driver was under the influence of drugs, police said. 

The accident occurred at 10:12 a.m. when Arlene Gucciardo, 73, was struck by a 2003 Audi. The driver of the Audi, 22-year-old Brandon Bondar, then fled the scene, police said. 

Gucciardo was stabilized by members of the Holbrook Fire Department and then taken to a waiting Suffolk County Police helicopter, which landed at .

Gucciard was admitted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. 

Police located Bondar and the Audi a "short time later" at Bondar's Centereach home, police said.

Bondar is charged with driving under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury. He will be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct for arraignment on Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
