Police: Man Drives Stolen Truck Through Holtsville

22-year-old Manorville man arrested after fleeing into Holtsville woods, police said.

A 22-year-old Manorville man who reportedly drove a stolen truck that crashed into a parked vehicle at a Patchogue car dealership before fleeing into the woods in Holtsville was arrested early Friday morning, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, a motorist called into 911 reporting a landscaping truck swerving on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway in Yaphank. The highway patrol bureau officers responded and officer Joseph Verdi attempted to pull the truck over at 12:19 a.m. Police say the driver, Matthew Roy, refused to pull over and proceeded westbound on Sunrise Highway before exiting onto the northbound side of Route 112 in North Patchogue.

Police say the truck struck and damaged a parked vehicle in an unnamed car dealership on Route 112 in Patchogue, and was followed by police as the truck drove through residential areas of Medford and Holtsville. Officers were able to deflate one of the vehicle’s tires using stop sticks. The truck continued and then struck and damaged two police vehicles.

Police say Roy stopped the truck at the Fairview Avenue and 13th Street intersection in Holtsville, and fled on foot into the woods where he was arrested at 12:40 a.m.

Police say the truck, a 2000 Isuzu, was found from an investigation to have been stolen from a business in Center Moriches on Thursday.

Police say that Roy has been charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, two counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, one count of criminal mischief in the third degree and one count of grand larceny in the third degree.
