Police: Homeless Man Charged In Strangulation

SCPD charges Kevin Conway in death of another homeless man that stemmed from incident this past weekend in Lake Ronkonkoma.

A homeless man was arrested and charged with strangling another homeless man on Saturday outside of a fast food restaurant in Lake Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Kevin Conway, 33, got into an altercation with Keith Leone in the parking lot of Checkers Restaurant at 258 Portion Road at around 1:30 a.m. Law enforcement authorities said Leone was left at the scene unconscious and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.

Leone, 39, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on October 23.

Detectives from the Fourth Squad arrested Conway later in the day on Saturday, October 20. He was arraigned on October 21 at First District Court in Central Islip and charged with second degree assault and first degree strangulation.

The Suffolk County Homicide Section is continuing the investigation and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether additional charges will be lodged against Conway.

A blood gang member from ronkonkoma did not like the way a construction worker was looking at him than talking to him while there was construction along portion rd which caused delays so they were by each other for a good period of time on portion and the side street before taco bell.. The gang member came back the next day while the construction worker was drinking his coffee reading his paper getting ready for work and than the man shot him execution style for the actions committed along portion rd previously in the week. It was shameful act than took away a hard working family man from mastic.

Ah I remember that now thank you. I don't think I realized it was gang related.

I don't think homeless people would be allowed to loiter, drink, urinate and kill in public areas of higher income areas. We pay just as much for law enforcement, why aren't the laws being enforced.
