Police: Holbrook Teen Arrested in Sachem Student Info Leak

Matthew Calicchio began the year as a student at Sachem North; is charged with computer trespass.

A Holbrook teen was arrested Friday and charged with illegally downloading records from the Sachem School District’s computer system and posting them on various websites.

Matthew Calicchio, 17, is charged with computer trespass, which is a felony.

Calicchio accessed thousands of student records during 2012 and 2013 and this past August, Sachem school officials discovered someone had accessed the district's computer system illegally, police said.

District officials contacted the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office which then notified the Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Section, which began an investigation.

In recent weeks, the student data has appeared on various websites, raising alarm among the Sachem community.

Calicchio began the school year as a student at Sachem North. Police did not say Friday night why Calicchio was no longer attending school. They also did not offer a motive as to why Calicchio downloaded and posted the student information.
