A man was badly hurt in a motorcycle that took place on Route 25, just west of Love Lane, in Mattituck Sunday night.

According to Southold Town police, Farmingville resident Michael D. Lourine, 33, was driving a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound at 5:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.

He struck a curb, was ejected, and struck his head on a utility pole, police said.

Lourine was transported by Mattituck Fire Department rescue to Peconic Bay Medical Center with "very serious" injuries, police said at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.

Route 25 was closed in both directions as police investigated the scene but reopened later in the evening.

No further details were immediately available.
