Police: Central Islip Man Charged in String of Commercial Burglaries

Luis Arroyo, 38, is arrested Saturday morning while attempting to flee from the scene of burglary, police say.

A Central Islip man faces nine burglary charges after police say he broke into commercial buildings at industrial parks in Bohemia, Islandia, Ronkonkoma and Hauppauge and stole various electronics and computer equipment.

Luis Arroyo, 38, was arrested early Saturday morning following a burglary at 3001 Express Drive North in Islandia. Arroyo was caught by police at Motor Parkway and Hawthorne Avenue in Central Islip after he attempted to flee from officers in a stolen vehicle, police said.

Further investigation revealed that Arroyo was behind numerous commercial burglaries "that occurred over a period of time." Police did not specify the time frame. 

Arroyo is charged with nine counts of third degree burglary, as well as one count each of first degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, third degree grand larceny, fourth degree grand larceny, third degree criminal mischief, fourth degree criminal mischief, petty larceny and third degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

Police are continuing to investigate whether there Arroyo is connected to other reported burglaries.

Arroyo was being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
