A 29-year-old Holbrook woman is seriously injured after being struck by a car Thursday night while walking on Holbrook Road in Holbrook, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Amanda Giardina was standing in the roadway at the road’s intersection with Express Drive North around 9:12 p.m. when a 2001 Volkswagen driving northbound on Holbrook Road struck her.

Police say the vehicle was reportedly driven by Sean Morrison, 46 of Lake Ronkonkoma.

Giardina was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via a fire department ambulance where she is being treated for multiple fractures. Police say she is listed in serious condition, and that Morrison was uninjured.

Police say the vehicle has been impounded for a safety check, and the investigation is continuing.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

I am not contributing any of this to the accident... This intersection is so dangerous! Drivers constantly mistake the shoulder for a lane (heading north under the over pass). The speed on the LIE SR in this area is bordering on light speed . There should be a red light camera in the area - especially since there is a school and library just north to try to slow things down a bit. How many serious accidents have occurred in the spot over the past few years? Are we waiting for a school bus to be involved?
