Police: Bellport Man Drove Drunk With Child in Car

A Bellport man was drunk behind the wheel with a child in his car when he was pulled over on Sunrise Highway in Holbrook Sunday afternoon, police said. 

According to police, Juan Campo, 32, was driving a 1991 Dodge Stealth westbound on Sunrise Highway near exit 52 when he was pulled by Highway Patrol Officer Henry Coleman over for failing to maintain his lane, police said

Campos had a 28-year-old female friend and her 11-year-old son in the car with him at the time, police said. 

Police said the officer determined Campos was under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI with a child 15 years old or younger–a felony of Leandra’s Law–DWI, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation and endangering the welfare of a child.  He was also issued three citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.

Campos will be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
