News Nearby: Police Say Canine Unit Helps Nab Two Who Stole Quad

Two men have been arrested and charged with stealing a quad-style motorcycle after they were tracked for two miles by a member of the canine unit, Suffolk County Police said.

Port Jefferson Station residents Jonathan Delrio and Ray Pena were charged with fourth degree possession of stolen property and fourth degree attempted grand larceny. Pena was also charged with an outstanding bench warrant.

According to police, Officer John Mallia and his dog, Blue, assisted Sixth Precinct officers responding to a report of two men attempting to steal a quad from a Selden home in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Mallia and Blue tracked the suspect for nearly two miles before locating the shed where the quads were taken, police said.

Upon notifying other officers responding in the area, Delrio and Pena were found riding one of the stolen motorcycles nearby, police said.

The two men were scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
