Nesconset Man Shatters Teen's Knee with Snowmobile During Blizzard

Driver realized it was kid after seeing report on television.

A Nesconset man turned himself in recently after hitting a teen with his snowmobile during last weekend's blizzard.

Louis Clark, 40, said he was watching a televised news report on Dec. 31 regarding the teen who was injured by a snowmobile in Nesconset and realized he was in that area riding a snow mobile and may have been involved, police officials said.

The teen, who is a minor,  was hit and shattered his knee after being struck on Browns Road in Lake Grove around 8 p.m.

Clark was charged with criminal negligence assault in third degree. He was issued a field appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear on Feb. 28, 2011.

When did it become acceptable to ride all-terrain Vehicles on Township roads, during snowy weather or at other times? Besides the obvious danger to life and limb, can the assualt on one's eardrums by these Vehicles be regarded as an acceptable accompaniment to the act of riding? While this may be considered as much of an annoyance as the ubiquitous leaf blower, at least a leaf blower performs a useful service. It would be wonderful if everyone in this Township would be mindful of the consequences of their actions, especially when those actions might impinge upon the safety and well being of their Neighbors.

I saw four people out on their all terrain vehicles during the storm driving like they were in the wilderness upstate and not on suburban roads. Really reckless.
