Nesconset Man Hit by Car, Killed

A Nesconset man was killed Saturday morning when he was hit by a car in Ronkonkoma, police officials said.

Robert Puerta, 25, of Hill Avenue, was walking in the southbound lane of Ocean Avenue, approximately 150 feet north of Michigan Street, when he was struck by a 2007 Cadillac Escalade around 2 a.m.

Puerta, was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Lakeland Ambulance Company where he was pronounced dead at 2:50 a.m., police said.

The driver of the Cadillac, William King, 63, of Middle Island, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigating is continuing.
