Sayville Man Seriously Injured in Ronkonkoma Motorcycle Crash

Michael Sweeny listed in serious condition after collision on Smithtown Avenue.

Police are investigating a collision in Ronkonkoma that left a 49-year-old motorcyclist in serious condition Monday night.

According to authorities, Michael Sweeny, of Sayville, was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson south on Smithtown Avenue in Ronkonkoma when he was hit by a 2011 Audi near the Railroad Avenue approach. Police say the driver of the Audi, Melissa Dipaola was making a left from Railroad onto Smithtown Avenue in the same direction as Sweeny when the crash occurred.

Sweeny was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition. Dipaola, 29, of Lake Grove, was also taken to Stony Brook Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded as part of the investigation. Police are asking anyone with additional information to call 5th Squad Detectives at (631) 854-8552.
