Missing Holbrook Man Found Dead

Involved in one-car crash in Holtsville.

A Holbrook man died in a motor vehicle accident after he had been reporting missing Wednesday.

Suffolk County Police believe Gerard Paul, 87, was driving a 1997 Saturn westbound on Union Avenue in Holtsville, when he went off the end of the road, struck a dirt mound and flipped his vehicle sometime on August 17.

The vehicle, which was not visible from the roadway, was found Thursday at 1:43 p.m. by electrical contractors working in the area.

Paul was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

A Silver Alert, a new program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement to share information with media outlets about individuals with special needs who have been reported missing, for Paul was put out on August 18 after his relatives had reported him missing to police.
