Man Killed on Beech Street in Lake Ronkonkoma

Shot while sitting in his car early Monday morning.

A man was shot and killed Monday morning while sitting his car in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Raymond Hirt, 51, of 100 Washington Ave., Mastic Beach, was parked on Beech Street, just south of Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma, when a dark-colored SUV pulled up beside the vehicle and an occupant fired at least one shot him.

The bullet struck him in the neck, at approximately 7 a.m., according to Suffolk County police.

Hirt, who is employed as a flagman for Pratt Brothers Inc., checked in for work at a nearby construction trailer and had just returned to his car when he was shot, police said.

The incident occurred across from Stop & Shop at a construction zone that is being worked on as part of the CR-16 revitalization plan.

Suffolk Police have not identified a shooter yet and notified Nassau County  Police that he may have fled westbound on the Long Island Expressway after the shooting.

He was transported by Ronkonkoma Fire Department to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10 a.m.

Multiple residents near the crime scene did not answer knocks on their doors Monday afternoon.
