Man Arrested in Ronkonkoma for DWI with Child in Car

Port Jeff Station man was nabbed on the LIE between Exits 60 and 61.

Police have arrested a Port Jefferson Station man who they say was driving drunk in Ronkonkoma with a 2-year-old child in the car.

According to police, Martir Alonzo Gonzales, 23, was arrested in the early morning hours today after a 5th Precinct officer observed Gonzales driving erratically on Ocean Avenue in Ronkonkoma. The officer followed Gonzales as he turned his 1995 Chrysler onto the eastbound service road and merged onto the LIE.

When the officer approached Gonzales he determined that he was under the influence. That's when he noticed there was a two-year-old girl in the vehicle, as well as an adult woman. Gonzales was charged under Leandra's Law, an aggravated DWI charge whenever a person 15 years or younger is a passenger in the vehicle. He was also charged with DWI.
