LIRR Customer Injures Self While Exiting Train

Reports say customer was intoxicated, possibly tripped on the platform gap.

Yesterday a customer exiting the train at the LIRR Ronkonkoma station was injured when he tripped over the gap and fell onto the platform.

According to Newsday, police say the man, who was not identified, was intoxicated at the time of the incident. The victim was deboarding the eastbound 12:37pm train that had departed from Penn Station earlier in the morning.

Reports say the man cut up his face when his head hit the platform. Emergency workers responded to the victim and transported him to Brookhaven Hospital for treatment.

The LIRR gaps have been an ongoing public safety issue for the MTA, so much so, that they regularly launch a "Watch The Gap" awareness campaign to avoid future mishaps.
