Hydrants Opened Around Town

Fire departments respond to flooded streets.

Early Sunday morning there were six reported calls for open fire hydrants in the Sachem area. Local fire departments were called to close them, according to Suffolk County Police.

The police's public information department said, "it's hard to find out if there is going to be some kind of investigation at this time," because it was on Sunday, but will be looking into the situation as early as Monday.

One news organization reported that 30 hydrants were opened in parts of Holtsville, Farmingville, Lake Grove, Coram, Selden and Port Jefferson, but that number has not been confirmed.

"One house had their entire front lawn flooded out and left underwater," the site reported. "Other roadways were shut down until the water could find its way off the roads."

Sachem Patch will be following up with Suffolk Police.
