Holbrook Teen Seriously Injured in Crash

Police say 19-year-old is in critical condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Suffolk Police are investigating a crash that has left a 19-year-old Holbrook native in critical condition tonight.

According to authorities, Nicholas Demaio, 19, was driving his 1997 Ford Escort northbound on Nicolls Road when he apparently lost control and careered across the grass median at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The vehicle flipped several times before it came to a stop in the southbound lanes of the road.

Demaio was rushed to Stony Brook Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The Escort was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Fifth Precinct at (631) 854-8552. All calls will be kept confidential.

I was one of the first people on the scene and my heart goes out to his family and friends. At age 13 I was in an automotive accident and rushed to stony brook by helicopter i had too be revived. I know and understand what him and his family are going to go through first hand. Prayers are needed for this young man and his family.
