UPDATED: Occupants Escape Farmingville House Fire

No injuries reported in early morning fire on Lidge Drive.

An early Monday morning fire caused serious damage to a Farmingville home, officials said.

The residents of the home at 5 Lidge Drive were able to escape the blaze before firefighters arrived on the scene shortly before 2 a.m.

"The occupants exited safely after the homeowner was awakened by "popping" sounds coming from his enclosed patio area," said Jack Krieger, a Brookhaven Town spokesman.

The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal's Office investigated the blaze and determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical failure, Krieger said.

The Farmingville Fire Department, as well as firefighters from Holtsville, Selden, and Medford helped put out the flames.

The fire was knocked down in less than a half hour and there were no reported injuries.
