An 18-year-old Patchogue-Medford High School student has been arrested Tuesday for allegedly starting a fire in an occupied classroom, Suffolk County police told Patch.

According to police, the student lit a paper mache mannequin on fire at around 10 a.m. inside of the 181 Buffalo Ave. high school in Medford.

Police say the student is charged with arson in the 5th degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree.

Nesconset Man Sentenced For Failing to Pay $114K in Taxes

A Nesconset man was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay the state $203,275 in in restitution for failing to pay personal income taxes for several years. According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Richard Edelson, 44, did not pay income taxes from 2004-2008.

A potential stranger danger incident involving a Sayville Middle School student on Monday turned out to be a non-criminal scenario, according to Suffolk Police, and there is no cause for alarm regarding a social network report about a woman driving a white car.

Blue Point Man Facing Robbery, Drug Charges

Marvin Jennings, 49, of Blue Point, was arrested in Hampton Bays on Oct. 26 on attempted robbery and drug charges. According to police, Jennings approached a man in front of the 7-Eleven on Montauk Highway at around 8:30 a.m. claiming he had a gun and demanding money.

Cops: Men in Masks Rob 2 in Stony Brook Area

Men in masks robbed two students off campus Tuesday evening, pushing them to the ground, stealing cash and credit cards. According to Stony Brook University police, who said they were notified by Suffolk County police, the robberies occurred within minutes of each other. The university issued a safety alert on the incidents.

West Islip

West Islip Man Charged With Rape, Criminal Sex Act

A West Islip man is facing a rape charge following an arrest on Oct. 28 in Smithtown. Robert Pettee, 26, allegedly raped a person under the age of 15, according to a police report. Suffolk Police declined to provide specifics on the arrest citing it is a confidential investigation.

Pettee is charged with two D felony counts, one for rape and one for a criminal sex act, according to a crime database.
