Crime Report: Phone Scam Attempt, Slashed Tires

A look at recent crime in Ronkonkoma.

The following information was culled from the Suffolk County Police Department's automated reporting and arrest database.

Ronkonkoma

  • Police responded to a grand larceny call on July 24. According to police an resident in an apartment on Empress Pines Drive called 911 to report that someone had stolen a men's watch, a Playstation 3 and coins from a bedroom. Police say there were no signs of forced entry.
  • Police answered a criminal mischief call on July 22. According to police an unknown person slashed multiple tires on three vehicles parked in the driveway of a residence on Wildwood Road. The call came in at around 11 p.m.
  • Police responded to a stolen vehicle report on July 19. According to police a 1999 Acura four-door sedan was stolen from a residence on Chestnut Avenue by an unknown person. The investigation is ongoing. 
  • Police received a call about a phone scam attempt on July 22. Police say they got the call around 4:30 p.m. from a complainant on Veterans Highway. The complainant claims a Hispanic sounding male called to say he had the complainant's son hostage and threatened to shoot him if cash isn't forwarded. The complainant was able to contact the son and determine he was safe. 
  • Jhonny Contreras, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was arrested in Central Islip on July 24 for criminal possession of stolen property worth more than $3,000. 
  • Brittany Vella, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was arrested on July 24 for multiple counts of 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and 2nd-degree obstruction government administration.
