Cops: Parents Left 2 Young Children Alone in Car To Go Shopping At Macy's

The children were left inside the car, without a motor running, when the temperature was a chilly 39 degrees, police said.

Parents from East Hampton was arrested on Thursday after police said they left two small children alone in a cold car while they went shopping at Macy's.

According to Southampton Town police, a call came in at 4:44 p.m. Thursday about two young children seen left alone in a car outside the Macy's department store in Hampton Bays.

Police said the two children had been left in the car for more than 15 minutes, prior to the arrival of authorities.

When police arrived, they saw the kids inside the car, which was not running; the temperature outside was approximately 39 degrees, police said.

Police located the parents inside the store and arrested them at 5:30 p.m. They were charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and brought to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing.

Police were unable to specify where the children were brought after their parents' arrest; check back with Patch for updates on the story.

Archie have you ever had children of your own ?
Hampton mom February 21, 2014 at 01:50 PM
With this winter we are having 39 degrees is balmy warm! Curious how old the children are...seems a bit extreme. Are we still living in America ????
laszlo Lowenstein February 21, 2014 at 02:09 PM
And then they went home and played outside until dark, and the temperature dropped to 32 degrees. And nobody cared because that's what kids do, play outside, or that's what they used to do until we as a society decided that kids were to be treated like premature ducklings, swaddled in gauze until they are dumped unceremoniously on the campus of an expensive college and told to figure out life.

Wow - Laszlo, just off yourself and get it over with, you miserable puke
ARCH STANTON February 21, 2014 at 02:58 PM
HEY HAMPTON MOM, YOU SHOULD BE GLAD THAT YOU LIVE IN AMERICA, WHERE PEOPLE CARE ABOUT CHILDREN WHEN THEY SEE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. OBVIOUSLY THEY WERE VERY YOUNG FOR SOMEONE TO CALL THE POLICE, WHICH LEAD TO THEIR ARREST. DID THESE TWO LAZY PARENTS EVER THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES, SUCH AS THE CHILDREN LEAVING THE VEHICLE ON THEIR OWN OR THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING PREYED ON BY A PREDATOR, ETC.
laszlo Lowenstein February 21, 2014 at 04:02 PM
Archie, how original is that name? How did you think that one up? Amazing. What I love about posters like you is that when you fail to understand something you want to squash it like a bug. The real Archie would have had some fun with it while making an ass out of himself. You skip right to the second part and miss out on the fun don't you?
laszlo Lowenstein February 21, 2014 at 04:04 PM
The proper response here: go find the parents who left these and talk it out with them. See if they can realize that what they did may seem wrong to some people, caring people. Don't get the police involved. We are a community of people, not a police state.
Archie Bunker February 21, 2014 at 05:17 PM
Laszlo - I hope when you walk up to confront the low life parents they don't blow your face off with a gun. Yeah, but thanks for the suggestion of "handling it on our own"

AN UPDATE, A GOOD SAMARITAN OBSERVED THE TWO CHILDREN, AN 8 YR. OLD GIRL AND 4 YR. OLD BOY SITTING ALONE IN THE AUTO AT 4:30 P.M. THE UNIDENTIFIED PERSON WAITED UNTIL 4:44 TO CALL POLICE WHEN NO ONE RETURNED. THE POLICE RESPONDED WITHIN MINUTES AND LOCATED THE PARENTS AT 5:30 P.M. SHOPPING IN MACY'S. THE PARENTS ADRIAN CORIA 32 AND BERTHA SANCHEZ MARQUEZ 31 WERE THEN ARRESTED. AS FAR AS THE PROPER RESPONSE GOES, EVERYONE DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE, EXCEPT FOR THE PARENTS. IT'S THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT THOSE CHILDREN, BY EITHER TAKING THEM INTO THE STORE OR LEAVING A PARENT WITH THEM IN THE VEHICLE. I DOUBT ANYONE WOULD HAVE SPENT AN HOUR SEARCHING FOR THE PARENTS AND THEN PROCEED WITH A LECTURE.
Frank Esposito February 21, 2014 at 09:13 PM
Have the parents contact my law office... the defense will be "were concerned about possibility mall shootings" "fear of mass shootings" etc. If it's their first offense we will have them off nearly untouched.

brookhavenconfucius February 22, 2014 at 08:13 AM
PS KNUCKLEHEADS FRANK, ARCH & 11779...WHY DID THE TOWN POLICE ARREST THE COUPLE ? They were NOT obligated to, unless the fine reportage of PATCH, is MISSING some of the facts here, OR the police are withholding extenuating circumstances of the bust, they are NOT releasing to the public. THERE IS MORE TO THIS STORY, than what PATCH says here.

"A Southampton Town Police spokesman said the fact that a 3-year-old was left in the care of an 8-year-old was the primary factor in charging the couple with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor." http://www.newsday.com/long-island/suffolk/cops-parents-left-kids-alone-while-shopping-1.7157227 HEY FRANK, WHAT DOES THOU SAY ABOUT THIS FACT ?

Why no names???????????????in the original article?????? If they were white this would be front cover with pics on every liberal rag in the country. Let me guess, free parenting classes for all immigrants and baby sitting if they cant handle working four jobs off the books and stealing from the taxpayer for endless freebies by claiming no income.....yes freebies that are better than what you struggle to pay for. You Mr and Mr American citizen rank lower than these special peeps. Forget you accomplishments...you didn't build that!!! Forget your striving to make you and your family better by hard work and education......screw you as per our Fed gang. You are going to PAY for any criminal that wants in on these freebies, BY TAKING FOOD OFF YOUR FAMILIES TABLE. SAY ONE WORD AND YOU YOU WILL BE LIED ABOUT BEING A RACIST AND SUCH. And most of all punch a white jerk in the nose for whatever good reason. You will get one sentence.....punch a hispanic in the nose and you will be vilified in the press around the country and get DOUBLE the sentence. Our Suffolk DA is in bed with this double standard, it has to stop! Thanks Tim Bishop wherever you are! What ever you do toher than shake down folks for bribes just to do your job. Nice. How is the Fed investigation going????? I'm sure it is just a joke....nothing happens to crooks in Washington, just us honest folk who are destroyed with fines, surcharges, interest, jail, attorney fees if god forbid we make a mistake in life!!!

HEY FRANK, YOU REALLY AREN'T SERIOUS ARE YOU? LET'S TRY THIS SCENARIO, WOULD YOU BE COMFORTABLE WITH EITHER ONE OF THESE MORONS BABYSITTING YOUR CHILDREN UNDER THE EXACT SAME CIRCUMATANCES AND CONTINUE TO EMPLOY THEM?

Gee..my story about my white friend driving in South Hampton with his eight year old was wiped out....Why is that? His reggie was apparently modified by the previous owner. He didn't reinspect as the sticker showed Dec expiration. Everything else was 100 percent legal. South Hampton cop pulls him over, took his kid saying he was endangering him in a uninspected vehicle. Went to foster care for the night they locked him up. Charged him with numerous felonies....yep its true including possession of fraudulent documents and endangering a child and tons of alleged violations that he committed so the cop had an excuse to pull him over. SHP impounded the car. Left all windows open to teach him a lesson, since the car was in the lot for months being kept for evidence, the interior was ruined. Two cop tricks to get back at you for asking them a question. Impound it for evidence and opening all windows. 10k later in lawyers fees, no free attorney like this scum will get on my your dime...he was free of this nightmare. He never had any issue with the law before.....at the time SHP was letting "immigrants" off for anything....thefts, DWI and any traffic violation of document issue. Forget the cars parked at a boarding home for months with Pa or NC plates, that is ok?? PC police but not for us Americans.
brookhavenconfucius February 22, 2014 at 11:36 AM
Frank, is THIS kind of legal defense, would be something, Michael Hess would expect from you ? Unless you are one of THOSE kind of lawyers !
Patchogue Snoop February 23, 2014 at 08:39 AM
Ahhww Shucks. Liberal Lowenstein wants to work it out without the policia. So nice to give this scum a free pass. No law involved. Gee, couldn't be any other issues with the way these ignorant people treated their children now could their.. I am sure all is well at home too, no abuse going on..... living just like the Brady bunch......except they don't get married so they can really stick it to the taxpayers who have to pay for their fraud committed when they lie and pretend to live apart maximizing their theft from the American Taxpayer.

Laszlo said: "The proper response here: go find the parents who left these and talk it out with them. " Dear Laszlo, Do you spend much time in Central Islip or Farmingville or Patchogue or Huntington Station or Greenport? By the advice you're giving to others here, I would guess that you don't venture out of your safe neighborhood. Do you think these people are meek and submissive and are going to welcome some patronizing gringo who comes up to them all full of good parenting advice? I think you might be quite surprised at what kind of a response you might get. Of all the reactions to this case, yours is truly the most astonishing. The issues of children, and even dogs, left unattended in cars, are appropriately handled by police.
laszlo Lowenstein February 25, 2014 at 11:42 AM
Brookhaven999 - it is this attitude, making automatic, knee jerk assumptions that brown people are so different from you, that is the problem here. Because you live in a town or have a particular skin tone or accent does not automatically make you a criminal who packs heat. Your descriptions are very telling, "meek," "submissive." It's as if you were talking about animals not people. Using kind, caring words to solve problems, not law enforcement tactics, is what makes a civil society. Sometimes yes, police should step in. But this wasn't one of those times. At least not initially. If the couple was unresponsive to initial attempts to shame them into caring for the kids and bringing them into the store, then yes, call the cops. Love your neighbor as you would yourself. It's in the Bible for a reason: because it works.
