Cop Hurt After Car Hit by Pickup Truck

Officer airlifted to hospital following crash on Sunrise Highway, police say.

A Suffolk County cop was injured after his car was rear-ended by a pickup truck on Sunrise Highway Friday morning, police said. 

The crash occurred after 911 call of a pickup truck weaving on westbound Sunrise Highway in Holbrook, police said. 

A highway patrol officer, who police did not name, pulled over in order to wait for the truck to pass his vehicle.

The officer’s patrol vehicle was struck by a 2013 Dodge pickup truck at about 11:40 a.m. The pickup truck was the same vehicle reportedly weaving on Sunrise Highway, police said.

The officer was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, Jason Rosenzweig, 23, of Montauk Point, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene. He was issued summonses for reckless driving and unsafe lane change, police said. 

The investigation is continuing.
