Brookhaven Town Hosts EMS Appreciation Day

Day of music at Brookhaven Amphitheater for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel.

As a thank you to the emergency services personnel who responded to the recent out east, the Town of Brookhaven hosted a fun day of concerts at the Brookhaven Amphitheater last Saturday.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko helped to create and organize the free event with cooperation from Ronkonkoma's JVC Broadcasting.

“The summer season is about to start at the amphitheater so we felt that this was a good moment to open up the gates and welcome our firefighters and EMS volunteers to a free concert," Lesko said. "It’s nice to see folks put their blankets out on the lawn, listen to some good music, have some hot dogs and have some fun."

An estimated 500 people attended the concerts. The acts included the Nassau Fire Department Pipe & Drum Band followed by one-hour performances each by the Joe Bayer Band, Rattlesnake Dawn, Wonderous Stories, That 70's Band and Quiet Riot.

“We wanted to say thank you to the firefighters who really put themselves in harm’s way to help fight the brush fires over a month ago. We obviously expressed our gratitude at the time but we wanted to do something more tangible. There was almost 1,000 firefighters from all across Long Island that responded incredibly quickly and dealt with a very dangerous situation,” Lesko said. “This isn’t to say that we’re done with the brush fire season. What I experienced though, in terms of the response to the April brush fires was awe-inspiring. Our volunteer firefighters are an amazing resource on Long Island and I don’t think you can ever say thank you enough.”

The event also coincided with the kickoff to National E.M.S. Week.
