Body Shop Owners Arrested for Petit Larceny, Making False Statement

Holbrook man and partner stripped car of windows and windshield after crash, police say.

A Holbrook man was arrested Friday for stealing parts from a car that was taken to him after the vehicle’s owner was involved in a motor vehicle crash earlier this month, according to Suffolk Police.

Sal Osnato, 62, of Holbrook, and James Jeffery, 54, of Central Islip, were charged with petit larceny and making a false statement after removing a customers windows and windshield from her car after a crash, police said. They were each issued a field appearance ticket.

Police said a 38-year-old Brentwood woman was in a motor vehicle crash on Front Avenue in Brentwood on January 15 at approximately 3:30 p.m. The woman’s 1997 Nissan was taken to Jim’s Perfection Auto, located on Wisconsin Court in Bay Shore. When the woman went to retrieve her vehicle from the auto body shop, she noticed the side windows and windshield had been removed.
