Body Discovered in Sayville Woods off Montauk Highway

No information as yet to the identity of the victim found near Lotus Lake.

A body was discovered late this afternoon deep in the woods on the south side of Montauk Highway, near the intersection of Broadway Avenue.

Suffolk Police cordoned off about two blocks length of trees and a pathway into the woods. No other details were available by press time.

People believed to be family members were seen being walked out of the woods by a police officer shortly before 6 p.m.

Patch will update this story when more information is available.

What gives anyone the right to know who was arrested (mostly young adults) for drugs, robbery, etc. on the the Police Blog. Aren't these families entitled to privacy and not have people gossiping about them? I agree with Lynn. If it wasn't important than it shouldn't be "breaking news" on the Patch without further information. If Newsday doesn't deem it news worthy then neither should the Patch. Everyone's opinion counts. However, you should not have to be insulted by rude, ignorant people if they don't like your opinion. Obviously, it is better to be the type of Sayville person who doesn't care or isn't concerned, which this town has an awful lot of! BTW, I don't need a hobby. I am a caring, concerned taxpayer who has a right to know what transpires in this community.

Everything is being misunderstood here. Now that everyone knows it was a suicide it should be left alone. It's understandable if people believe it to be a murder that they would be concerned about the safety of their family. But that is not the case. We need to put ourselves in the position of the family that has been through a great loss. If it were your child (God forbid) wouldn't you want a little privacy? Maybe they were unaware of what was going on in their child's life, maybe there were issues goIng on that need to be private, there are a million maybe's. It was breaking news because there were cops and a blocked off area and at the time no one knew what was goIng on. Now we know the unfortunate news and that should be that. Let's have some compassion and empathy and let it be.

I think part of the confusion is that Patch did update this story with a new story once we had police information the next day. Here is the link to that story: http://patch.com/A-wLcT.

Well said Shannon. I could not agree with you more as suicide is a private family matter. May The Good Lord bless the soul and family of the departed.

So sad to see someone did such irreversible harm to themselves and now their family is left to suffer and say why? I see it all to often people are so busy in their lives they don't see what goes on under their own nose with their own family. Society has taught us not to be failure and not really how to handle a rough patch in life. Coddling kids is not the answer. Glad it was not a murder, so sad someone took their own life. RIP whoever you are. Condolensences to the family, I could not even begin to uderstand your pain.
