Arson Suspected in Two Farmingville Fires

A Farmingville hair salon has been the location of two fires on Wednesday and Friday morning this week.

Contempo Salon II, located at 626A Horseblock Road, endured fires around 3 a.m. on each of those mornings.

The fires have caused minor damage to the front of that section of the building, which also houses Dunkin Donuts and is located right across from Ralph’s Italian Ices.

Women in the hair salon were working Friday, cutting hair like usual.

There are no suspects in the case, according to owner Martha Carrion.

“Obviously somebody wants to burn the store,” she said. “It’s just this store.”

She said the first night an unknown person broke the front window with a bottle. The surveillance tapes installed at the facility showed that, but the individual was not identified.

The salon opened six months ago. It’s in the same shopping center as a previous hair salon fire that happened on the far end of the complex. , forcing a majority of the store fronts to undergo reconstruction. Carrion doesn't think there is any connection.

“It looks like they’re going to do it again,” said Pola Acosta, Carrion’s daughter, who works there. “We don’t know who it is but they’re targeting us.”

A county fire marshall spoke to Carrion Friday afternoon. Since it's currently under investigation, no comments could be made.
