Another Accident at Notorious Intersection

Motorists involved in high impact crash on Holbrook Road and Express Drive North taken to area hospitals.

Police and local fire departments responded to this motor vehicle accident that sent at least two victims to the hospital, according to Suffolk Police.

The accident occurred at a seemingly notorious intersection: the traffic light at Holbrook Road and Express Drive North, where residents say the LIE overpass causes a dangerous blind spot.

Sources say the victims were removed from their vehicles and transported to Stony Brook Hospital in stable condition.

Last May, a 26-year-old woman was killed at this very spot by an alleged drunk driver now standing trial for the woman's death. In the background of this photo by Tom McGrath, the makeshift memorial for the woman, Kristen Iacono, is still visible and regularly updated. Other accidents, not fatal, have occurred at the infamous corner between these two incidents as well.

On our Facebook page, readers remarked at the frequency of crashes here. "There has to be something that can be done about that corner," stated Jenni Lerman. "How many more accidents and deaths before someone decides its time."

Patch will follow up with inquiries to the Brookhaven Highway Department and report any developments.

for the 30 years i have been a fireman in ronkonkoma we get 1 or 2 wrecks there a month.sometimes more.i think it has more to do with people blowing the light .cause everyone is in such a hurry. to get no where....

the light needs to be re-timed and moved to a more visible location, like the wall under the overpass

see the white jeep in the picture im 100000% positive its another sachem TEEN putting a used lift kit on a old box (flip machine) jeep. then take it to woods to beat the piss out of it then drive it on the roads .. its total irresponsibility. bet any amount of money that wont pass inspection and cant brake properly . when a light turns green also doest mean to slam on the gas your LIABLE to look both ways> any one know that is how you drive? man ignorance kills

The light does need to be retimed. The light for motorist traveling on Holbrook road should be green most of the time. The service road light should be red longer. Another oversight by our government officials, just like the snow removal. Maybe it a giant conspiracy by the one percenters and the govt to have us all killed before we can collect our social security.

I pass that intersection several times every day and I can say that many, many people heading west on Express Way Drive North blow through that light likes it's not even there. I have nor problem seeing the light when heading north under the LIE. People just need to slow down and stop being in such a hurry.

I travel through this intersection every day. It would be a tremendous help if the owner of the house on 109 Holbrook Rd, would TRIM THE BRANCHES of the pine tree severely blocking the view of westbound service road traffic.
