15-Month-Old Child Dies in Farmingville Crash

Child was not properly restrained in car seat, police say.

A 15-month-old girl died in a motor vehicle accident in Farmingville Wednesday afternoon, according to Suffolk County Police.

Corenthea Skipwith, 50, of Mastic, was driving a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer southbound on County Road 83 in Farmingville, just norh of Granny Road, when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle overturned and came to a rest in the median. Police said Skipwith’s 15-month-old granddaughter was ejected from the vehicle.

She was declared dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The child was in a car seat, but was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, police said.

Skipwith and the child’s mother, Natoya McCoy, 28, also of Mastic, were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.
